Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship is a concept in which the goal is to provide individuals with the understandings needed to use technology safely. BCS Technology is dedicated to teaching students healthy habits for using technology and the internet. The primary focus areas of digital citizenship are:

 

  • Digital Footprint – Information that exists on the Internet as a result of their online activity.
  • Cyber Bullying – Use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
  • Online Privacy – Protecting sensitive and private data, communications, and preferences while on the Internet.
  • Media Balance – Creating a plan for a personalize plan for healthy and balanced media use.
  • News and Media Literacy – The ability to access, analyze, evaluate create, and act using all forms of communication.

Be Internet Awesome – A program that encourages kids to be safe while online and learn how to avoid online bullies and predators.

Common Sense Media – Free resources for parents and educators.  Parents can review movies, books, apps and games for age appropriate content and search by topics.

Cyberwise – A go-to source for busy adults who want to help kids use technology.

NetSmartz – An interactive, educational program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that gives age-appropriate resources to aid children to be safer on and offline.
