Writing, AI, and the Critical Thinking Step We Can’t Skip

Host Josh continues the writing series with Leann Klepzig, Secondary ELA Coordinator for Bradley County Schools. They dive deep into why writing—at the secondary level—is the key to critical thinking and how the process is naturally linked to reading (“Reading is breathing in and writing is breathing out”).

Leann shares creative strategies for getting students to enjoy writing by giving their work a real-life purpose, from dreaming up a perfect basketball game to writing persuasive letters that actually accomplished a goal.

Finally, they tackle the pressing question of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the ELA classroom. Find out why Leann argues that using AI to skip the analysis step is like letting a robot do your workout and how teachers are adapting assignments to ensure students build a firm foundation before using AI as a professional tool.
